Easy to use with an immediate display of outcome makes hCG Midstream Urine Test an ideal choice to determine pregnancy by detecting the presence of the hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin.
Human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG, is a hormone which is produced by the developing placenta shortly after conception and secreted into the urine. A hCG pregnancy test contains antibodies which specifically react with this hormone.
After urine specimen has saturated a midstream, capillary action carries the specimen to migrate along the membrane. Once hCG in the sample reaches the Test Zone region of the membrane, it will form a colored line to indicate its presence in the body. Absence of this colored line suggests a negative result. To ensure the test has been performed properly, a colored line will appear in the Control Zone regardless of hCG presence.
Please note: for the most accurate results, midstream test should be taken 10-12 days after ovulation. The earliest a pregnancy test can be taken to give positive results is seven days after ovulation.
Test Procedure:
- Remove the test stick from its foil pouch by tearing at the notch and take the cap off the test stick.
- To perform the test, turn the test stick so the absorbent tip is pointing in a downward direction and hold the test stick in your stream of urine so the urine makes contact with the absorbent area. Hold it for at least ten seconds so that adequate urine goes into the absorbent part of the tip. Do not allow urine to splash into the result window. To prevent urine from splashing the result window, during application, place your thumb over the interpretation window while holding the test in the urine stream.
- Re-cap the pregnancy test and lay the test flat on a horizontal surface with the result window facing upwards.
- Depending on the concentration of hCG, positive results may be observed in as little as 40 seconds. However, to confirm negative results, the complete reaction time of 5 minutes is required. It is important that the background is clear before the result is read. Do not read results after the specified reaction time.

Reading the Results of an hCG Midstream Urine Test:
Not Pregnant or Negative Results: The Test Zone is blank and free from any line.
Pregnant or Positive Results: The Test Zone displays a colored line.
